Fade Me is a fun little INIT which will fade your screen to black on restart and shutdown. Just throw the INIT in your system folder and restart. This INIT only works on Macs with gamma monitors (which, as far as I know, includes all color Macs except color Powerbooks).
The restart fade is slightly faster than the shutdown fade. Both leave the gamma at 0, which means that if you are unfortunate enough to get a dialog box saying “It is now safe to shut down your Macintosh” or some such nonsense, you won’t see it on shutdown. It *is* safe to shut down your Macintosh after your hard drive stops spinning, even though you can’t see the “safe shutdown” dialog box. When you restart your computer, the gamma will be reset and things will be back to normal.
Fade Me used to be called Shutdown Fade, but that name is already used by several other programs, so I changed the name to avoid confusion. (Never mind the fact that *I* registered my Shutdown Fade with Apple, Inc...) Fade Me uses the same icon and creator code as my old Shutdown Fade, to avoid further confusion. If all this confuses you, well, don’t worry about it. Sit back and enjoy the program.
